Christ the Lord

“And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” ESV Luke 2:10-11

In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis wrote: “We are faced, then, with a frightening alternative. This man [Jesus] we are talking about either was (and is) just what He said or else a lunatic, or something worse. Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God. God has landed on this enemy-occupied world in human form.”

The Gospel of Matthew announced that “the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel (which means God with us).” God has indeed “landed on this enemy-occupied world.” So, let us consider from Scripture whose birth we are celebrating.
